Laser Periodontal Treatment
Laser periodontal treatment is a new and effective dental therapy used to treat periodontal (gum) disease. Laser periodontal treatments are free of the typical drawbacks of traditional surgery. These treatments will halt your infection, reduce gum pockets, eliminate any bacteria, and maintain better oral health results over time.
Procedure:
After our dentist identifies a deep periodontal pocket, (often with tartar on the root surface and bone loss), he or she will use the dental laser to completely remove the unhealthy or infected gum tissue from the pocket. At that point, the dentist will rinse out any remaining debris or tartar. Utilizing the laser once again, our dentist will disinfect the area, effectively eliminating any remaining toxins or bacteria. Once the tissue is sealed with a fibrin clot, your bite will be adjusted in order to balance the chewing forces and removing any trauma to the tooth. Now your gum and connective tissues will be reattached to the surface of the root, resulting in a much smaller periodontal pocket.
Laser periodontal treatment is effective and safe for all patients, including those who suffer from bleeding disorders, diabetes, or who are on blood thinners. Please call Pleasanton Family and Cosmetic Dentistry today to learn more about your options for periodontal care.
