Root Canals
Teeth that have decayed or become infected are often extremely sensitive to temperature and pressure and can cause a patient intense pain. If the tooth is left untreated, the decay and infection will cause an abscess to form on the tooth. These compromised teeth will more often than not require a root canal.
When confronting severe infection and decay, the patient can either pull the tooth or save it through a root canal. Tooth extraction can cause significant dental problems for adjacent teeth and is often more problematic than helpful. A root canal procedure is usually the preferred choice because it restores function to both the mouth and tooth and does not cause problems with the adjacent teeth.
Our dentists will often recommend a root canal for one of the following reasons:
- The pulp of the tooth has started to decay
- An abscess or an infection has developed in the tooth
- The tooth has received trauma or injury
A root canal can provide lifelong restoration and function to your tooth and mouth. Please give our office a call today to schedule your next dental appointment and learn more about how a root canal can help you achieve a healthy, beautiful smile.
