Digital X-rays

At Pleasanton Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we use the latest dental X-ray technology: digital radiography. By using an electronic sensor, this technology (commonly known as digital X-rays) will both capture and store accurate digital images of your teeth.

Taking digital X-rays is a much faster and more comfortable process than taking X-ray film. Digital X-rays also expose patients to much less radiation. Because the images taken by the machine can be viewed instantly, our dentists are able to recognize and diagnose developing dental problems much more efficiently.

Receiving dental X-rays is important because they can help us prevent pain, discomfort, and permanent damage to your mouth. Despite the fact that digital radiography is much safer than traditional X-rays, our office still takes every precaution possible to prevent any unnecessary radiation exposure. We take our patients’ safety and healthy seriously.

How often should I receive an X-ray?

Each patient’s need and frequency for X-rays is unique and based on a dental exam, their dental and medical history, any symptoms or signs they may be exhibiting, their risk for disease, and their age. Everyone should receive full digital X-rays of their bottom and top teeth at least once or twice a year, and more X-rays may become necessary if any dental problems arise. Patients who are currently experience tooth difficulties or pain are strongly encouraged to arrange an appointment with one of our dentists immediately.
